Using data sets commencing from the artist’s year of birth sonified with custom tools developed by the artist and accompanied by deliberately decimated images, can you decipher the territory implied by the (refracted) map? Beckoning viewers to confront their role in a world increasingly dependent on inscrutable data flows while undergoing profound ecological transformation, LXD invokes the intersection of individual agency and collective responsibility amidst the ceaseless flux of our shared biosphere and the emerging technological systems reshaping it — with or without our consent.

The dance floor was lit up by BBC Radio 1 host, DJ, and producer Benji B, musician and DJ Athena Yasaman, the contemplative dancy vibes of 063N13, and filled with global disco bangers by Seance Centre & Prince Language on the second floor.
Rick Silva’s ‘Totality’ artwork, Refraction’s latest drop for Refract Pass holders, debuted at Public Records, as well as Metamedia, an interactive chain-agnostic, multi-layer format featuring works from several artists and envisioned by Noah Pred.
Attendees were able to pick up merch from our limited edition drop with Crowdmuse and Harmony-NY, a one-off long-sleeved tee spotlighting all the visual artists and musicians showcased during the night.

Cursive Binary: cloud vellum indelible (2022)
A digital monostitch (one-line poem) fusing legible verse with semi-asemic binary code. Composed of words extracted from the poem "Ten Year Challenge," first published in 2019 and reprinted in Stiles' book "Technelegy," which investigates the rise of blockchain poetics and the evolution of language beyond human voice and printed page. Part of Stiles' ongoing literary experiments using poetry as a lens to explore how technological transformations are changing what it means to be human.

The compilation is released as an on-chain record, available for R.AV Club members to stream and download, and available for purchase for non-members via Zora’s Layer 2 blockchain and Bandcamp beginning August 22nd. This release also includes a long-form DJ mix featuring tracks from the compilation, mixed by 2023 MUTEK Market artist Honeydrip, with a visual accompaniment created by Market artist Emma Forgues. The aim of the Activated Engrams collection is to materialize the strongest memories collected during the past 10 years of club life and tours.
Glass appears as the perfect vehicle for displaying those memories, like it would display a hologram.
The pictures representing the memories are stripped down to their most pure extracted form, a few pixels, and we can see them evolving from one to one in a blurry constellation of electric reminiscence.

About the artist: Sara Ludy (b.1980, Orange, CA) is an American artist and composer working in a wide range of media including painting, AI, VR, video, photography, websites, installation, and sound. Through an interdisciplinary practice, hybrid forms emerge from the confluence of nature and simulation to explore notions of immateriality and being. Previous exhibitions of Ludy’s work include the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Vancouver Art Gallery, Whitney Museum of American Art, Berkeley Art Museum, and Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Her work has been featured in Modern Painters, The New York Times, Art Forum, Art in America, and Cultured Magazine. Sara lives and works in Placitas, New Mexico.
A portion of the proceeds will go to supporting Rhizome’s Anniversary Benefit. Rhizome champions born-digital art and culture through commissions, exhibitions, scholarship, and digital preservation. Founded by artist Mark Tribe as an email discussion list including some of the first artists to work online, Rhizome has played an integral role in the history of contemporary art engaged with digital technologies and the internet.

Jimmy has graciously donated the work to raise funds for Refraction. All proceeds go to our summer programming as we continue to experiment with ways to redistribute economies across artist communities, and champion diverse curation around the world.
