The old Wrigley manor sits atop the hillside overlooking Avalon. Before this trip, I never knew about William Wrigley Jr.'s dedication to protecting Catalina.
On the way to Pebbly Beach, up the road from Avalon, you could see a cruise ship anchored off the coast, its lifeboats repurposed to ferry visitors to and from the shore.
The structure is made of white concrete mixed with local aggregate. The surface of the structure was sandblasted to reveal the texture and color provided by the island's stone.
Our overnight lodging was in Hamilton Cove, down the road from the historic casino. The white stucco and orange tiles accentuated the Mediterranean ambiance.
