Xookt Zero is a 1/1 that explores the iterative evolution of digital art, moving beyond static images activated with animated SVG elements (www.nuxui.art) to dynamic web browser-native works. The essence of Xookt is vividly displayed in the flowing, melting, and digital degradation within the image. Please left click to cycle new degredation types.

Conceived as a living artwork in constant flux, Xookt seeks equilibrium between static and dynamic states, embodying a push-pull dynamic that navigates both old and new digital aesthetics, revealing and obscuring its source over time. To overcome pixel limitations, the image is re-rendered as live pixels, allowing seamless scaling from a small browser window to a captivating video wall.

Rooted in a CG fluid simulation, Xookt centers around a 3D mask with a humanoid form as its focal point. Viscous liquid gracefully cascades down the screen, transforming the spatial arrangement into a flat image. Generative shaders refine this work for its native web browser habitat, employing vibrant aquatic colors shaped by the ever-present and versatile fundamentally basic perlin noise.

The transformative process of Xookt unfolds with dynamic random pixelation and pixel sorting, triggered by randomized scanlines. The result is a multi format multiresolution artwork that shapes and reduces a 16k static base image into evolving pixels—sometimes fluid, other times resembling simple coloured blocks.

Over a span of 12 months, Xookt underwent a iterative journey—transitioning from a simple image to over 200 works, animations, and finally returning as a single web browser artwork. This shift signifies a newfound focus for myself, marking Xookt as a singular 1/1 proof of concept.

Rez Tabs, an AI-generated art collection that builds upon the concepts explored in my previous project, Nuxui. In this collection, I look at objects as worlds, devices, and landscapes—familiar yet infused with an alien quality. Everyday devices undergo a digital transformation, aging, degrading, and taking on sculptural forms, immaterial surfaces, and finishes. This collection serves as an antidote to the sterile aesthetics of consumer technology, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics and processes behind metal casting, ceramics, mass production, plastic moldings, and various manufacturing techniques.

The integration of AI in Rez Tabs, where "rez" refers to resolution and "tab" to tablet, provided me with an opportunity to extend beyond the level of detail and immersion achievable in my typical 3D-based work. The use of AI allowed for meticulous iterative control over surface details and forms while introducing unexpected artifacts within the constraints of my prompts.

AI is most powerful as an artist tool when it enhances existing artistic practices and opens doors to previously unattainable outcomes. In this project, the super-resolution expansion of upscaling algorithms played a pivotal role in realizing the concept of something simultaneously handheld and world-sized.

The process begins with a basic 3D render of a tablet or frame, illuminated by simple lighting to define its form—an initially hand-sized device. This image is then iteratively merged with other works and cross bred with img2img and reprocessed, upscaled, downscaled, remade until I find consistent forms.

The distinctive features of Rez Tabs, such as dripping, subtle color streaking, erosion, patina, and micro-landscapes, are inspired by Xookt, a fluid simulation based artwork of mine that has been refined and iterated to capture delicate surface details and vivid coloring.

Rez Tabs, marks the beginning of a small series comprising three separate works. Viewers can navigate through these works within a user-friendly web browser explorer, seamlessly zooming in and out to explore each image as both an object and a macro view of smaller sections. The interface includes an overlaid grid and cursor, mimicking the inspection of artifacts. High-resolution images are available for download, providing viewers with the option to obtain standard high-res copies for further exploration.

Timeframe X01, a digital artwork produced through Comfy UI, leverages AI in its creation process. Utilizing my prior 3D artworks as a foundational element, the framework and tablet components undergo an iterative crossbreeding, img2img, and multiple upscaling processes with Australian landscape painter John Glover's works, specifically those portraying Tasmanian landscapes—a thematic choice reflecting my connection to the place I grew up in.

Presented within a webGL container, Timeframe X01 shifts away from a flat 2D rendering, adopting a 3D object format. Marigold AI generates a depth map for displacement effects, complemented by normal and roughness maps derived from the base image, enhancing tactile shader details. This method encourages a virtual interaction with the artwork, simulating a sense of touch within the browser environment, alongside the more traditional image format.

As the first entry in a series of 150 AI works, Timeframe X01 is the starting point for me of a new way of working, connected and expanding on my previous work, integrating AI tools in a deliberate and purposeful way, offering adaptability in mediums and enabling previously unattainable levels of detail immersion. Viewers can access the artwork as a high-resolution PNG image (Press D) or a dynamic 3D web object.
