"crypto is good at gambling"

but gambling isn't net new

gambling isn't innovation

gambling is entertainment

people don't need more sources of entertainment

ppl don't need something that generates even higher levels of dopamine

gambling doesn't solve poverty and crumbling institutions

if this is what the market wants, then ofc the market is shortsighted

if this is what i want, then ofc i'm shortsighted

the truth is, the mania is what gets us distracted from a scary world, as we hope collectively for a golden ticket

the good part is, the mania is funding experiments in all other areas that are not gambling

i believe crypto is an important accounting technology for the internet and digital objects

but still, coming back down to earth after this cycle will feel weird in many ways
