R.I.P. to one of my favorite transmaterial AR pieces - and all of the other ones. @meta @realitylabs is killing @metaspark and with it, killing countless art pieces I’ve made using the software, like two pieces of “A Picture Can’t Take Me” body of work, which I’m presenting at @enterartfair in Copenhagen this weekend. Unfortunately the Meta Spark software is closed source, so I can’t simply export the AR layer of these works and host it elsewhere. They will need to be redeveloped on another software and platform. I’m going to try to translate these projects, or at least part of them into code and mint it for closure. I can’t believe this is happening. To the Meta Spark community: you are some of the most amazing, kind, generous and inspiring people I have ever met. I’m thankful for the knowledge share and the moments that Meta flew us into many Hackathons to hang out and push XR together. My heart with with everyone that built an entire business and clientele upon IG filters. I’m so sorry this is now gone. If anything, I chase silver linings, and I will never again rest my future on big Web2 closed source tech. As a researcher of platform capitalism I should really have seen it coming.
